Former Scottish Labour leader Jim Murphy has discussed the long term relationship he has been having with a man.
Murphy, who was the darling of the Labour movement in the last election before losing his seat, told the Scottish Daily Mail: “Yeah, it’s really good being gay and that,” adding “we both love Strictly, and Alan Carr.”
The news comes literally hours after current Labour leader Kezia Dugdale talked about her female partner to the Fabian Review.
Some have regarded Murphy’s announcement as political bandwagoning, with Ruth Davidson stating: “He has no fashion sense, there’s no way he’s telling the truth.”
Adding to the surreal nature of the announcement, Murphy announced the name of his partner on Twitter, after some badgering by supporters and detractors alike – former Deacon Blue drummer and Sportscene presenter Dougie Vipond.
In response, Vipond seemed perplexed posting to his Twitter: “Who actually is Jim Murphy?” along with a series of laughing face emojis.
